This Benin applique textile tapestry features iconic folk art characters in the characteristic hand sewn style by the Fon people of the Republic of Benin. Each figure is hand cut and meticulously hand sewn onto the backing, usually representing historical symbols, proverbs, or royal emblems. This piece is stretched by wood stretchers.
