The back has an affixed description: An oil monotype is the result of an unusual combination of techniques. The painting is done in oils on glass, the entire image executed in reverse. At a particular time in the drying of the painting, a contact print is made, pulling the paint from the glass and destroying the original. Thus a monotype is one of a kind.
