This listing is for a pair of antique bentwood chairs manufactured by the historic firm Jacob & Josef Kohn. They likely date from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Thonet / bistro style. Jacob & Josef Kohn were Austrian furniture makers / interior designers. Their works can be seen in a number of museums today, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Beautifully stylized & curvy back splats and detailed panel seats. Great examples of early industrial wood-bending techniques. Functional, sculptural bistro / dining chairs. Perfect details for an antique home— they’d fit in beautifully with old Paris / French bistro, antique European, and rustic country farmhouse style furniture.
Condition: both chairs are in vintage (likely over 100 years old) used condition and show signs of wear. The back splats have some chips, and the seats have use. Structurally sound. Remnants of original paper labels on the base, as well as a really interesting Red Cross Pasadena Chapter tag — these chairs have a history!
