This listing is for a vintage hand-painted Orthodox Christian icon of the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary, Mother of God) and baby Jesus Christ. Truly a one of a kind piece of art!
MP is the traditional Greek abbreviation of Meter Theou, Mother of God. MP represents the first and last letters of the Greek word Μήτηρ (Mother). "IC" represent the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (Ἰησοῦς / Iēsous).
It can be hung on the wall using the loop attached to the back. Beautiful hand-painted image of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus with metallic gold details on a real piece of wood bark. Great detail and texture throughout.
Perfect small size to add to a religious gallery wall, or use a plate stand or art easel to sit on an office desk, living room shelf, or bedside table.
A stunning devotional image, or a lovely piece of artwork for your home. A lovely gift for a Religious Studies major, professor, or teacher, or a thoughtful gift for a new mother or priest / pastor.
Condition: in good used vintage condition with minor signs of wear / age to the wood. Because it is old, the wood / bark “flakes” a bit— some flaking to be expected in transport. A few noted bumps / losses in the bark.
